The Art of Making Mochi
Growing up, my family and I would spend a day before the New Year at my aunty's house in Hanapepe, Kaua'i pounding mochi. Mochi is a staple food in the Japanese culture, specifically around the New Year, to represent happiness and good fortune. Usually, the men do the pounding of the steamed sticky rice, and the women and children form the balls of mochi. This year, I finally decided to document this day.
